Statement regarding ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ of Missouri Board of Curators Presidential Search Committee Conference Call

Because of an administrative oversight, the ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ of Missouri did not post timely advance notice of a meeting on Friday morning of the Board of Curators Presidential Search Committee. The ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ regrets this oversight.

The Search Committee is composed of all nine members of the Board of Curators and the Student Representative to the Board. None of the committee members knew the 10 A.M. conference call had not been properly posted in advance. The committee had convened in open session, then members voted to close the meeting. They also voted to adjourn, after meeting for just over an hour. No other votes were taken. Participants in the conference call included the executive search consultant hired by the Board and several ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ officials who are assisting in the presidential search. They also were not aware the meeting had not been properly posted in advance.

The meeting was not properly posted with the minimum 24 hours advance notice because the Board of Curators Office inadvertently failed to inform the Department of ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ Communications about the meeting. ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ Communications handles distribution of public meeting notices as provided by the Board Office.

When ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ Communications learned of the meeting late Friday morning, Director Scott Charton immediately told ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ officials it was not properly posted. Interim President Gordon Lamb, at the recommendation of Curators Chair Don Walsworth, UM General Counsel Marvin "Bunky" Wright and Charton, directed that the meeting, which had already adjourned, be publicly acknowledged in the interest of openness and to acknowledge the ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ’s inadvertent oversight.
